An early corner from the left for Grange was cleared and shorty after Tregoze broke through the midfield but the shot was safely held. The runners-up from the West League opened the scoring with a low shot that seemed to catch the Grange goalie off guard as he stood and watched it roll past him. Grange riposted and were awarded a free-kick when a poorly-timed tackle felled one of their players. The free-kick was struck well but the ball went over the bar. A weak shot from Grange proved no problem for the Tregoze ‘keeper before a second free-kick for Grange shortly after was cleared away for a corner. The flag-kick was cleared only for the follow-up effort to force a fine save from the Tregoze custodian. Grange continued to enjoy the greater amount of possession with a low shot from the left going just wide. Their efforts were finally rewarded with an equaliser courtesy of a long-range free-kick which found the top left corner of the net. Tregoze restored their lead when a long punt upfield was allowed to bounce just inside the Grange half and a quick-thinking Tregoze player hooked the ball over the stranded Grange goalie. The side from Lower Stratton restored parity five minutes later though when a back-pass was intercepted, then slotted past the ‘keeper. A late effort from Grange went wide of the target and the half ended at two goals apiece. After the interval the Tregoze goalkeeper made another good save from a Grange free-kick before his side riposted, forcing the opposition to concede a corner. Grange were nearly made to pay for a defensive lapse when Tregoze drilled a fierce effort towards goal which was palmed away for the corner. The ball was curled in from the left but solid defending forced the header over the bar. Grange went ahead for the first time in the match when a player out-paced a defender to connect with a delightful pass and stroked the ball into the bottom left corner. Tregoze went in search of an equaliser and struck the crossbar with their next shot at goal but Grange extended their lead soon after with a superb effort which was drilled past the goalie. Tregoze refused to give up and good pressing enabled them to intercept a back-pass and make the score 4:3 with a quarter of the game left to play. Grange fired over before Tregoze won a corner which was cleared for a second but this delivery could only find the side netting. Few watching could deny that Tregoze didn’t fight hard for another equaliser but Grange defended steadfastly and sealed the win with a fifth goal late on.
